Fellings has taken place around Terväjärvi several times in the 1970s and 1980s. Some of the fellings were open fellings and the affected area of the fellings was almost 50 hectares. Logging was carried out all the way to the shore of Tervajärvi, and only a part of it was left on the shore, so-called protection zone.
Logging can be seen in the area as sparse and dense and monotypic pine forest. There is no forest growing in this place, and the forest is about 40 years old.
However, the grouse thrives in such a forest. In the snow, you may see waste of grouse, take-off marks or arrow-patterned marks, which you can tell apart from other hen birds by size. The footprint of a grouse is smaller than that of a Tetrao urogallus. The length of the track of the grouse is often approx. 8-9 cm. Grouse´s waste is a yellowish pile of poo. The open-harvesting area is uphill from Sikoniementie.
